I’m Pregnant Again. Can I Place My Baby for Adoption with the Same Agency?
You have that familiar feeling again, and there it is: a positive pregnancy test. One thing you should know is that you are not the only birth mother who has been in this situation. Whether this happens months after the birth of your first child or in the midst of your adoption journey placing him or her, know that you have nothing to be ashamed of. You may feel afraid or unsure, but you already know the steps you are going to take. You’ve been through the adoption process once and are confident that you can go through it a second time. But then your mind wonders: Can I place my baby for adoption with the same adoption agency?
It’s not uncommon for birth mothers to experience another unplanned pregnancy. It’s okay if you are still in the same situation as before and cannot raise your child. At Adoption Choices of New York, we will welcome you and your baby and support you however we can. Adoption is still an option for you, so you can always come back to our agency for multiple placements. We will never turn you away.
Why should I go back to the same adoption agency?
Despite the unplanned pregnancy, the good thing is that you’ve been here before. You’ve been through all the feelings of a surprise pregnancy, and you’ve had an adoption journey already. You can see what your path ahead might look like, and you’ll remember the steps to take.
You know the people at our adoption center in New York and we know you, so you can know we’ll help you find the best match for your child. We can even arrange for you to work with the same adoption caseworker, if you’d like!
We welcome multiple placements with open arms and will make sure your second placement is just as successful and empowering as your first. We can also set up the same plan you had last time (type of adoption, counseling services), or you can choose something different, if that’s what you prefer. Working with the same adoption agency can also ensure that you have an even smoother adoption journey, now we have experience working together and established a relationship with you.
What if I feel too embarrassed to go back to the same adoption agency?
We understand that this can be a stressful time for you. But we also understand that unplanned pregnancy happens to a lot of people; whether you’ve already had a child or not. You’re not alone. We will support you just as we did during your previous pregnancy, and we will never judge you. Neither will your child’s prospective adoptive parents: they’ll be nothing but grateful for the chance to raise a new baby.
Coming back to the same adoption agency will help create a stress-free, familiar adoption experience.
Can I place my baby for adoption with the same adoptive family as my first baby?
Short answer — maybe! Long answer — it depends. Your adoption caseworker can absolutely reach out to your first child’s adoptive parents and let them know that there is a sibling who is in need of a loving home. We would love nothing more for siblings to remain together. However, it’s up to the adoptive parents and what they are able to do. If they say yes, then we can definitely place your second child with their brother or sister.
If the adoptive parents are unable to adopt your second child, you don’t need to worry. We will do everything we can to make sure that the siblings are able to stay in contact together. This can give you comfort knowing that your children will get to know each other and grow up as siblings.
