Creating Your Adoption Plan with Adoption Choices

Placing your baby for adoption is a lifelong decision. Don’t rush the process. Even if you decide to place your baby for adoption late in your pregnancy or after delivery, take your time. Creating your adoption plan is a unique process. From the level of openness you wish to have with the family and your child to what you look for in a prospective adoptive family – the decisions are yours can be made with care. The most important thing for you to keep in mind is what you feel is best for you and your baby. Adoption Choices of New York will take it from there and this is what you can expect:

1 – Meet with an Adoption Specialist

Our counselors are willing to meet you wherever and whenever it’s convenient for you. No matter where you live in New York, a counselor could meet you in your home, out in the community, or in our office. We will talk with you about your individual situation, answer questions, and discuss the adoption process.

2 – Choose an Adoptive Family

Adoption Choices of New York has many families across the U.S. for you to choose from. After you decide which family you are interested in, you can proceed however you’d like. You may call, email or meet with adoptive parents, or you can communicate your plan directly through your adoption counselor.

Your adoption counselor will be available to talk and meet with you before, during and after the adoption placement for as long as you need support. Contact Us 24/7: 800-505-8592 (Phone) | 518-478-8420 | Email

3 – Choose Your Level of Openness

All Adoption Choices birth mothers choose the type of adoption or level of openness they desire: open adoption, semi-open adoption, or a closed adoption. We always encourage a level of openness between adoptive families and birth parents, but ultimately it’s up to the birth mother to decide!

4 – Create a Birth Plan

WE can help you create a birth plan that fits your needs. Your adoption counselor will assist you in planning your hospital stay. You can decide on spending time with your baby and/or the adoptive parents, if that is what you desire. Your delivery and hospital plan is yours. Once the baby and you are ready to be discharged from the hospital, the baby goes home with the adoptive parents.

5 – Consent to Adoption

To complete the adoption process, birth parents need to consent to the adoption. The consent is a legal document that birth parents in New York must sign after 48 hours of the baby’s birth.

6 – On-Going Support

Your adoption counselor will be available to talk and meet with you before, during and after the adoption placement for as long as you need support. Contact Us 24/7: 800-505-8592 (Phone) | 518-478-8420 | Email
