Common questions about post placement & post adoption services

Why do we need post placement visits?

These home visits, after a child is placed into your home, provide feedback on how the child and family are adjusting. The final post placement report is used to recommend the finalization of the adoption.

Can Adoption Choices do post placements if the homestudy was done by someone else?

Yes. Individuals and couples may apply for Post Placement Services only. You will be required to submit the homestudy, complete new child abuse and criminal clearances and any other needed documents.

How frequent are post placement visits?

States have individual requirements as to how many visits are needed and over what period of time. You will be informed of the specific requirement when making a decision on moving forward with a specific adoption.

Who must be interviewed?

All household members need to be present for the visits.

When will we finalize the adoption?

States have their own timelines and finalization procedures. Adoption Choices or your attorney will explain which state has legal jurisdiction of your adoption, how the process will work, and the timeline for finalization.

What if we have questions after the adoption is finalized?

Adoption Choices remains available to its clients to answer questions even after the finalization of the adoption.

We are not shutting down during this difficult time! We are fully devoted and available to all pregnant women and birth parents that are looking at adoption as an option. We will also continue to work with prospective adoptive parents who are already a part of our program. If you are a prospective adoptive parent hoping to apply to our program, we are accepting applications and doing Homestudy now.
