Adoption Choices of New York offers several options for those seeking home study and post placement services. To begin receiving local adoption agency services, download the application, indicate what type of services you are looking for, and mail back to Adoption Choices of New York.
NEW HOME STUDIES
After submission of the application and payment of the application fee, Adoption Choices of New York will review the application and forward you the home study packet to complete and return to us. After all documents are submitted, a social worker will be assigned to schedule the home visit and interviews.
If seeking POST PLACEMENT SERVICES only, once the application and post placement packet have been completed and returned to us, we will notify ICPC that we are providing post placement services.

INTERVIEWS
The home study process includes a home visit and interviews with all household members, submission of all needed documentation, and receiving child abuse and criminal clearances. On average, the home study takes two months to complete. You will see the finished report prior to Adoption Choices of New York releasing your home study to another licensed adoption agency, an attorney, and or court for pre-certification or for finalization of the adoption. The home study is a confidential document and will only be released to those for whom you have given authorization to receive the report.

PRE-CERTIFICATION
Pre-certification is a pre-adoption court process for adoption in New York State, which certifies (approves) applicants to adopt. The Pre-Certification process takes place in your local Family or Surrogates Court and includes an adoption attorney (of your choice) filing papers and Adoption Choices of New York submitting the home study, child abuse, and criminal clearances. Once granted, the Certification is good for 18 months.
LOCATING A BIRTH PARENT OR CHILD FOR ADOPTION
Once you have an approved home study and been pre-certified, you may begin your efforts to locate an expectant parent or child. All applicant(s) may work with outreach experts who may place ads, assist with on-line listings, and field phone calls from expectant parents. New York residents may NOT work with adoption facilitators. Applicant(s) working with Adoption Choices of New York for a match/placement will work with our family marketing program to create you Adoption Profile Book, design a webpage and start your on-line campaign. Adoption Choices of New York or adoption attorneys (for expectant parents located in other states) will help provide or coordinate services needed for a specific adoption.

HOME STUDY UPDATES for New York and most out of state placements, the adoption home study will need to be updated should you not have a child in your custody within 12 months. Medical reports and clearances are good for 12 months from the date received and may need to be updated prior to a home study update. Should a specific state need additional information, a home study addendum or update will be completed.
